Ancient DNA


Our ancient DNA laboratory uses ancient genomes to decode our past, using state-of-the-art methodologies.
The laboratory also provides services to researchers from outside the SFAI. 

 

Research

Our research aims include:

  • Investigating the genetic makeup of prehistoric and proto-historic populations
  • Unraveling population migrations and routes of dispersal

  • Decoding kinship relationships, population structure, and demography

  • Studying the genomes of the last hunter gatherers and the first farmers in the Levant

  • Using ancient DNA recovered from archaeological sediments to reconstruct population histories and past environments

  • Developing laboratory and analytical methods suited to the recovery of ancient DNA from warm climates
